Oak - Year 6

Hello! Welcome to Oak Class. 

Reminders: 

Our P.E days have changed! Indoor P.E is on a Monday and outdoor P.E is on Friday. 

Please make sure you are wearing appropriate clothing. 

Homework gets set on DB Primary on a Friday at 4pm and due the following Thursday.  Homework consists of pages from your grammar and maths CGP revision books, spellings to practise and a quick reading comprehension. 

SUMMER TERM

This term, our topic is 'Moving on', where we will be answering key questions about the upcoming transition, attending transition days and practising for our end of year shows!

SPRING TERM

Check out what topics we are going to be covering below this term. In science, we will be looking at evolution and inheritance and electricity and our overarching topic is called 'Our Changing World'. as part of this, we will be starting our geography unit.

Our Author of the Half Term is:

Michael Morpurgo!

He is the author of many books for children, five of which have been made into films. He also writes his own screenplays and libretti for opera!

Here are some facts about Michael Morpurgo.

  • Michael Morpurgo was born on 5th October 1943 in St Albans, Hertfordshire.
  • He has written over 100 books.Private Peaceful was his 100th title.
  • After graduating from university, Michael became a primary school teacher in Kent.
  • He writes all of his books in exercise books. He doesn’t work on a desk, instead he sits on his bed, propped up with pillows.
  • His favourite animals are elephants.
  • Some of his favorite authors include: Robert Louis Stevenson, Rudyard Kipling and Ted Hughes.
  • He dislikes the process of editing and rewriting.
  • Michael Morpurgo enjoys watching TV. He particularly likes documentaries.
  • Michael set up the Farms for City Children project with his wife, Clare. It gives deprived urban children a chance to work on a farm and enjoy the benefits of being outdoors in the countryside.
  • Michael was given an OBE in 2006.
  • In 2003 he became the Children’s Laureate, becoming the third person to fulfill the role.
  • He has three children: Sebastian, Horatio and Rosalind, and several grandchildren.
  • He likes listening to Mozart, but he can only write in a silent room.
  • Michael loved French at school and he went on to study this subject at university.
  • He likes eating prawns

Parent Meetings

This half term we have been looking at the work of the author Eoin Colfer. Have you read any of his books? If so what was your favourite?
Eoin Colfer (born 14 May 1965) is an Irish author. He is most well known as the author of the Artemis Fowl books. Colfer was born in Wexford in Ireland and still lives there with his wife and children.
